Guwahati: Lawyer appeared in HC wearing jeans, judge pulled him out, police had to be called

Guwahati: A senior advocate who appeared in jeans during a hearing at the Gauhati High Court on Friday was escorted out of the court premises and the matter was adjourned for a week. Justice Kalyan Rai Surana called the police to take advocate BK Mahajan out of the courtroom and asked the matter to be brought to the notice of the Chief Justice, the Registrar General and the Bar Council.

The court said in the order, ‘The hearing of the present matter is adjourned as Hon’ble B.K. Mahajan has come wearing jeans pants. Therefore, the court will have to call policemen to take them out of the High Court premises. It said that this order be brought to the notice of the Chief Justice as well as the Registrar General.

Justice Surana said, “The matter may also be brought to the notice of the Bar Councils of Assam, Nagaland, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh.” At the same time, the anticipatory bail plea on which Mahajan had appeared for hearing will be heard after a week.
