Gyanvapi case: Court dismisses mosque committee’s petition, next hearing on December 2 – Fast Hindi News

Varanasi: A court in Varanasi on Thursday rejected the Gyanvapi Masjid Committee’s objection seeking daily worship of a Shivling-like structure in the mosque premises and fixed the matter for hearing on December 2.

Assistant District Public Prosecutor Sulabh Prakash said that fast-track court judge Mahendra Kumar Pandey found the plea filed by Kiran Singh to be hearable and fixed December 2 for taking up the matter.

The court dismissed the objection filed by the Anjuman Intezamia Masjid Committee, questioning the maintainability of Singh’s plea.

The mosque committee objected to the petition citing the Places of Worship (Special Provisions) Act, 1991. The Act states that the religious character of any place of worship as it existed on August 15, 1947, must be maintained.

Prakash said the lawyers for the Hindu side argued that the Waqf Act did not apply to them.

The fast-track court on Monday deferred its verdict on the matter till November 17.
