Harbhajan’s frank words about our players… Champions Trophy, told till when Team India should not go to Pakistan?

Pakistan is hosting the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The Champions Trophy is to be held in February-March next year. However, whether Team India will go to Pakistan to participate in the tournament or not? It is not clear yet. The BCCI has clearly said that the government will decide on the Indian players going to Pakistan. At the same time, former Indian legendary spinner Harbhajan Singh has given his frank opinion. Bhajji says that until the security concerns are not removed, Indian players should not go to Pakistan at all.

‘Our players until then…’

Harbhajan told Sports Tak, “There have been concerns about security there. If there is no security for the players there, then I don’t think we should go there. If they say that the teams will be given full security and there is no problem, then whatever the government thinks is fine. Actually, this is not limited to cricket only. It is beyond that. As a cricketer, I can only say that if you want to play cricket, then play, but there is a concern about security there. Our players should not go there until we feel that the security is absolutely right.”

India’s matches are scheduled in Lahore

The BCCI has always said that playing cricket in Pakistan is completely a government decision. The Indian team did not even go to Pakistan to play the Asia Cup 2023. Then the Asia Cup was held on the basis of ‘hybrid model’ hosted by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). India played all its matches in Sri Lanka. According to the draft schedule of the Champions Trophy, all of India’s matches, including the possible semi-finals and finals, are scheduled in Lahore. The India vs Pakistan match is scheduled for March 1.

All eyes are now on the ICC

At the same time, the PCB has left it to the International Cricket Council (ICC) to convince the Indian Cricket Board to send its team to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy. A few weeks ago, the ICC had a meeting in Colombo. According to reports, the budget for the Champions Trophy was approved in the meeting but the schedule was not discussed. The next chairman of the ICC will be Jay Shah, who will take charge from December 1. Shah is currently the BCCI secretary.
