Ranchi: Amid speculation that Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s wife Kalpana will be made the Chief Minister, the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM)-led alliance in the state has called a meeting of its MLAs here on Wednesday. These speculations have intensified after the recent summons of ED to Chief Minister Hemant Soren and the sudden resignation of a JMM MLA Sarfaraz Ahmed on Monday. Meanwhile, the Chief Minister said that the possibility of his wife contesting the assembly elections is just an imagination of the BJP. Along with this, he said that BJP is presenting a false narrative that he will hand over the power of the state to his wife.

Speculation after resignation of JMM MLA

The opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has alleged that Ahmed has been forced to resign so that in the event of ED action against Soren, the Chief Minister’s wife Kalpana Soren can contest from his seat Gandey. Jharkhand Mukti Morcha General Secretary Vinod Kumar Pandey, in a letter written to the ministers and MLAs of the alliance parties, said, “A meeting of the MLAs of the alliance partners has been called on January 3 at 4.30 pm at the Chief Minister’s residence. Please ensure timely participation in the meeting.

What does the governor say?

On the recent political developments in the state, Jharkhand Governor CP Radhakrishnan said on Tuesday that nothing has come to my knowledge, everything is on paper only, let’s see.

Big meeting of JMM alliance on Wednesday

JMM sources said the meeting has been called to discuss the current political scenario as well as chalk out a strategy in the backdrop of the ED summons to Soren. Ahmed’s sudden resignation without giving any reason has led to speculations that Soren may resign and make his wife Kalpana Soren the Chief Minister and she (Kalpana) may contest from the vacant seat. The ED, in its latest summons to Jharkhand Chief Minister and JMM working president Soren, has asked him to inform the investigating officer about a date, place and time of his choice for recording his statement under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). Can go.

ED has called Soren for questioning

According to the ED, the investigation pertains to “a large racket of illegal change of land ownership by the mafia” in Jharkhand. Soren has ignored six earlier ED summonses accusing him of using central agencies to destabilize the democratically elected state government. The seventh summons was issued in December last year. He had filed petitions before the Supreme Court and Jharkhand High Court seeking protection from ED action, terming the summons as “inappropriate”. Both courts rejected his petitions.

The Chief Minister’s Office has sent a letter to the ED office here but its contents are not known. The investigating agency arrested 14 people in this case, including IAS officer Chhavi Ranjan. He was previously the Director of the State Social Welfare Department and Deputy Commissioner of Ranchi.

BJP will meet the Governor

Meanwhile, BJP state president Babulal Marandi has said that a delegation will meet Governor CP Radhakrishnan and request him to consult legal experts and attorneys if the Hemant Soren government proposes to appoint the chief minister’s wife as his successor. Ask for suggestions from the general. Marandi said any attempt by Soren, who is allegedly involved in a land and money laundering scam, to make his wife Kalpana the chief minister would be a mockery of democracy.
