The Haryana unit of the BJP has written a letter to the Election Commission demanding the postponement of the assembly elections scheduled for October 1. Other parties including the Congress are targeting the BJP over this. When asked about this, senior BJP leader Anil Vij said that his party is ready to contest the elections tomorrow itself. The former Home Minister of Haryana said that the BJP recently held a marathon meeting for 2 days. During this, names of 3-4 potential candidates were sent to the Central Election Committee for each seat of the 90-member state assembly. See that our party is ready.
Anil Vij said, ‘If you take one holiday out of the dates declared for the elections, then there will be 5 holidays. This creates a fear that people will go out and the voting percentage will go down.’ He said that Congress has reacted to this. But, we are not talking about just postponing the election dates. If you want, you can postpone it. Postpone it by 2-3 days so that five days are not wasted. He said with confidence that our party is ready to contest the elections.

On Saturday, a state BJP leader said that the party’s state unit chief Mohan Lal Badoli has sent a letter to the commission urging to postpone the assembly elections. Haryana Chief Election Officer Pankaj Aggarwal confirmed that the commission received the letter through e-mail on Friday. Varinder Garg, a member of the BJP’s state election management committee, said, ‘We have argued that there is a weekend holiday before the assembly election date on October 1. There are some holidays after that, which may affect the voting percentage.’
