In the US Presidential Election 2024, when Donald Trump defeated the current President Joe Biden in the first debate, more than half of the Americans believed that Trump could be the next President. However, miraculously, Kamala Harris of Indian origin, who entered the race only three months ago, defeated ‘Maharathi’ Trump in her first debate. Trump, who earlier was constantly mocking Kamala Harris without saying anything to her and was claiming that Kamala Harris is no match for him. During the 90-minute debate in Pennsylvania on Wednesday, Kamala Harris appeared to be superior to Trump on every occasion. Trump appeared to be on the backfoot with many of his own statements. Harris was successful in cornering Trump on topics like US foreign policy, economy, border security and abortion.
Trump emerged as a master by defeating Biden
Three months ago, when 81-year-old Joe Biden was pitted against Donald Trump in the US presidential election, Americans and even Democrat lawmakers surrounded Biden citing his age. 55 days ago, Trump and Biden came off the debate stage in Atlanta. Then the world saw how Trump defeated Biden. Biden was on the backfoot throughout the debate. Citing a viral video, Trump accused Biden of sleeping during the debate. After facing criticism for several days, Biden himself had to withdraw his candidature. In this difficult time, the Democrats fielded Vice President Kamala Harris against Trump. Calling herself an ‘underdog’ from the beginning, Kamala gained support from the party in a few days and threw all her strength against Trump.
Trump made personal attacks
During this, Trump made personal attacks on Kamala Harris several times. He used abusive language for her. Before the debate, Trump boasted that there is no competition between Kamala Harris and him. Trump even claimed that by making Kamala Harris the candidate, the Democrats have ensured an easy victory for him. However, during the debate on Wednesday, all the claims of Trump proved to be baseless. Kamala Harris surrounded Trump on every front and strengthened her hold among the audience. After the debate, Trump even had to say that he was competing with three people and not just Kamala Harris. Trump even accused the organizers of favoring Kamala Harris.
Kamala Harris bit the dust like this
Democratic Party’s presidential candidate Kamala Harris defeated Republican rival Donald Trump in the first debate. Harris was successful in cornering Trump on topics like US foreign policy, economy, border security and abortion. During this debate with Trump, Harris tried her best to compensate for President Joe Biden’s disappointing performance in the previous ‘Presidential Debate’ and was quite successful.
Kamala Harris’s arrows that injured Trump
Harris (59) concluded her 90-minute debate in Pennsylvania by commenting, “I think you heard two very different visions for the country tonight. One that focuses on the future and the other that focuses on the past and is going to take us backwards, but we are not going back.” She claimed that world leaders “laugh at Donald Trump” and leave no stone unturned to ridicule him. She said, “I have spoken with military leaders, some of whom have worked with you. They say you are a disgrace.”
Trump (78) also tried to corner Harris, asking why she did not fulfill the promises she is making now in these three and a half years of her administration and under President Joe Biden? In his closing remarks at the debate, the former president said, “She started with the fact that she will do this, she will do that. She is going to do all these great things, but why has she not done it till now? She had three and a half years to do all this. She had three and a half years to solve the border dispute. She had three and a half years to create jobs and all the things we talked about. Why did she not do it then?”
Let women decide on their own bodies, Harris replies to Trump
During the debate, Harris said, “As I said, you will hear many lies and it is really not surprising.” She said that if Trump becomes president again, he will sign the National Abortion Ban Bill. She claimed, “There will be a national abortion monitoring system, which will monitor your pregnancy, your abortion.” She said, “I think the American people believe that some freedoms, especially the freedom to make decisions about their own body, should not be given by the government.”
Trump hit back, saying that abortion policy should be decided by the states. He said, “Harris is lying again. I am not going to sign any such bill. The Democratic Party, the Republican Party and the lawmakers all want to bring it back to the states and the states are in favor of it.” There was also a spat between the two over election rallies.
Discussion from Taliban to Afghanistan
The former president raised the issue of Afghanistan several times in his address and said that the way the US army was withdrawn from there was the “most shameful moment in the history of America”. On this, Harris, referring to her talks with the Taliban, said that it should be remembered in what circumstances the withdrawal (of troops) took place. Trump claimed that Harris “hates Israel”, to which the Vice President retorted that Trump likes “dictators”.
Now what?
After the debate, many American commentators said that Harris performed better during the debate. Fox News, which is often considered to be inclined towards Trump, also said, “She emerged as a clear winner in the Trump-Harris contest, but this does not mean that the election is over yet.” During the debate, Harris was seen interrupting Trump several times. However, it could not be heard when Trump was speaking because her mic was off. Trump vowed that if he wins the general election on November 5, he will end the war between Russia and Ukraine.
