Has Bangladesh changed now? This is what the situation in the country seems to be after the Sheikh Hasina government was ousted from power on 5 August. An interim government is running in the country under the leadership of Mohammad Yunus and these days views are being expressed against Mujibar Rahman, who led the Bangladesh Liberation War. Not only this, during the violent protests, the statues of Mujibar Rahman, who is called Bangabandhu, were broken with hammers at many places in the country. Not only this, the situation is such that in Dhaka, there was a demand to declare Mohammad Ali Jinnah, who is called the creator of Pakistan, as the Father of the Nation.
On Wednesday, a program was organized at the Dhaka Press Club on the occasion of the 76th death anniversary of Mohammad Ali Jinnah. During this, Jinnah was remembered and a demand was made that he should be declared the father of the nation instead of Mujibar Rahman. Bangladesh came into existence in 1971 after the Liberation War. This movement started mainly after the dispute over the Bengali and Urdu language and the part called East Pakistan became a separate country as Bangladesh. The Awami League has been associated with that legacy, but now after Sheikh Hasina fled the country, pro-Pakistan elements are dominant.
Organizations like Jamaat-e-Islami, which fight against the people of Bangladesh in collaboration with the Pakistani army, are now seen to be getting stronger. On Wednesday, an event was organized at the National Press Club of Dhaka, in which Urdu poetry was recited and some people also gave speeches. During this, a demand was also made that the flag and national anthem of Bangladesh should also be changed. Such a demand has given a big blow to the liberals in Bangladesh and it is a matter of concern for them. Such a demand is also increasing in the social media of Bangladesh.
In the event held at the Press Club, many speakers even said that Bangladesh has become independent twice. Once Bangladesh got independence on 14 August 1947 and then it happened for the second time on 5 August 2024. The important thing in this comment is that 1971 was not mentioned, when Bangladesh was formed. In this way, the speakers termed separation from Pakistan as wrong. Along with this, there was a demand to declare Jinnah as the Father of the Nation.
