Colleagues of the doctor who was raped and murdered at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital have given details about her schedule a few hours before her death. They said the trainee doctor was very focused. She was known for her punctuality. She lived in a girls’ hostel. For the past one year, she used to commute to work from her home on the outskirts of Kolkata.
She came to work at the hospital’s OPD at 10 am on August 8. She was assigned to Unit 2A. She admitted six patients that day, the Times of India reported. The trainee doctor had her lunch in the sleep room after 3 pm.
“She came after 3 pm and had her lunch in the adjacent sleeping room. This is where everyone usually eats. She was a little shy but very focused. She left the hospital around 4.30 pm. While leaving, she told everyone to call her if any patient gets sick,” the trainee doctor’s colleague said. “The call never came and I came to know about her gruesome death the next morning,” the fellow doctor said.
The trainee doctor’s colleague said he met her in the hospital corridor a few hours before the murder. “Didi was rushing towards the ward when I bumped into her in the corridor. We chatted with each other and she said she had a lot of work in the ward,” the junior doctor said.
She had dinner at midnight. She took rounds of the wards. After working for 16 hours, she went to the seminar hall of the hospital at 2 am. Her body was found in the hospital in the morning.
The police have arrested Kolkata Police civil volunteer Sanjay Roy. He was seen entering the seminar hall at 4.03 am in the CCTV footage. His Bluetooth headset was also found at the crime scene. During the polygraph test, he told the CBI that when he entered the seminar hall, the lady doctor was already injured and unconscious.
The investigating agency claims that he is trying to mislead. The CBI has told the court that the woman was not gang-raped. Sanjay Roy allegedly raped and murdered her.
