The International Cricket Council (ICC) has fined both Pakistan and Bangladesh teams. The first Test match of the two-match series between these two teams under the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 was played at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, where Bangladesh registered a spectacular victory by 10 wickets on 25 August. A day after this victory, the ICC found both these teams guilty of slow over rate and for this reason both have been fined. Pakistan bowled six overs less in the stipulated time, while Bangladesh bowled three overs less in the stipulated time, so both have suffered a loss of six and three points respectively. In this way, both have suffered losses in the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 points table.
Pakistan will have to pay a fine of 30 percent of their match fee, while Bangladesh will have to pay a fine of 15 percent of their match fee. Pakistan captain Shan Masood and Bangladesh captain Nazmul Shanto have both admitted their guilt and accepted the punishment given by the ICC.
After this, Pakistan remains at the eighth position in the ICC World Test Championship, while Bangladesh has moved from sixth to seventh position. In this way, Bangladesh has suffered a loss in the points table. Apart from this, Bangladesh’s senior all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has also been fined 10 percent of the match fee. Shakib was found guilty of violating the ICC Code of Conduct. During the Rawalpindi Test, Shakib threw a fast ball towards Pakistan’s wicketkeeper batsman Mohammad Rizwan when he left the stump just before bowling and the umpire stopped Shakib from throwing the ball. This incident happened in the 33rd over of Pakistan’s second innings. Apart from this, Shakib has also got a demerit point for this act.
