Gyanvapi Case in Supreme Court: An important hearing will be held in the Supreme Court today regarding the creation of Shivling found in Gyanvapi complex of Varanasi. There will be a hearing on the demand to pursue the order related to preserving the place of creation. Earlier on Thursday, Hindu side’s lawyer Vishnu Jain told the court that the Supreme Court’s order to preserve the place is valid till November 12. On this, Chief Justice Dhananjay Chandrachud assured that a special bench will be constituted on November 11 at 3 pm and hearing will be held.
What was the last order?
On May 17, a Supreme Court bench of Justices DY Chandrachud, Surya Kant and PS Narasimha had asked for safe keeping of the alleged Shivling found in the Gyanvapi complex. The court had made it clear that the worshipers would not be able to perform wudu at that place. After this, on May 20, the Supreme Court transferred the entire matter to the District Judge of Varanasi. On the request of the Muslim side, the Supreme Court had asked the district judge to first decide on the merits of the trial of Hindu devotees, that is, to decide whether the matter is worth hearing or not. On May 20, the Supreme Court had also said that the May 17 order would remain in force for 8 weeks after the district judge’s decision on the merits of the case of the Hindu side, ie the place would be protected. On September 12, the district judge has declared the trial maintainable. In such a situation, the period of the order of the Supreme Court is being completed on 12 November.
what happened yesterday?
On October 31, the Supreme Court had said that it would hear the matter on November 10, but the matter did not come up for hearing on Thursday. Vishnu Jain, counsel for Hindu devotees, placed the matter before a bench headed by Chief Justice Chandrachud. He told that a hearing is necessary in the Supreme Court before November 12, so that the order regarding the security of the place can be issued afresh. On this, the Chief Justice said that he would sit and hear the matter with the judges who had heard the matter earlier at 3 pm on Friday afternoon.
