New Delhi: India has successfully test fired the new generation ballistic missile Agni Prime. It was successfully tested on Thursday from an island off the Odisha coast. According to officials, after three successful trials of Agni Prime, this was the first night trial of the missile before its induction into the armed forces. The two ships, fitted with horizontal distance measuring equipment such as radar, telemetry and electro-optical tracking systems, were deployed at different locations to collect data throughout the missile’s journey, he said.

According to officials, top officials of DRDO and Strategic Forces Command witnessed the successful test firing of Agni Prime, which paved the way for induction of these missiles into the armed forces. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO and Armed Forces for the successful test firing of Agni Prime.

Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) has developed it. It is a surface-to-surface nuclear capable missile. It is the smallest and lightest missile in the Agni series.
