Amid the havoc created by Iran-backed terrorist group Hezbollah, divisions have started appearing in Israel itself. People have started losing faith in Netanyahu. Lakhs of Israelis are protesting against Netanyahu on the streets and cursing him for his failure against Hamas. Israelis, led by opposition parties, have demanded fresh elections in the country. Israelis are directly blaming Netanyahu for the massacres happening in their land including Gaza. They say that if Netanyahu had shown wisdom, so much loss would not have happened.
To avenge the killing of its commander Fuad Shukr, the Lebanese terrorist group Hezbollah on Sunday heavily shelled 11 Israeli targets. According to the Times of Israel, Hezbollah says that it has fired more than 300 rockets, while the IDF says that more than 200 air strikes were carried out. Some air strikes were destroyed by air defense systems, but some Israeli rockets fell on the ground. There has been a lot of damage at many places, people have also been killed. In response to Hezbollah, Israel also fired more than 100 rockets in Lebanon and wreaked havoc.
Hezbollah on Sunday launched a retaliatory attack on Israel, targeting 11 military targets. The statement said, “The first phase was completely successful. It was a phase of attacks on barracks and strongholds up to the main targets inside Israeli territory. The drones flew according to plan. During this, 11 targets were listed and attacked, including three IDF bases, two bases in the Golan Heights, three barracks and several strongholds.”
Netanyahu is getting weakened by rebellion
Thousands of Israelis once again took to the streets across the country demanding new elections. The families of the hostages held their weekly rally at Tel Aviv’s Hostage Square. At the rally, they criticized the government for failing to rescue six hostages. Their bodies were recovered from Gaza a few days ago. A group representing those detained in anti-government protests said three protesters were arrested in Jerusalem.
A relative of one of the bodies recovered said in a message to Netanyahu, “You could have saved them but you didn’t.” Opposition leader Yair Lapid said, “If Netanyahu fails to strike a deal, it means he is directly carrying out the wishes of Hamas’ new chief Yahya Sinwar. Mr. Prime Minister, go to Cairo yourself, don’t send anyone. Strike a deal now.”
It is noteworthy that a Hamas delegation arrived in Cairo on Saturday for talks with mediators Egypt, Qatar and the US. The Israeli delegation also held talks in Cairo on Thursday and Friday. However, Lebanon’s pro-Hezbollah Al Mayadeen news outlet said late Saturday that talks between negotiators and Hamas in Cairo did not lead to “no clear progress”. The report claimed that Hamas told the mediators that it is ready to accept the agreement reached on July 2, but now Israel has once again obstructed the ceasefire by imposing new demands.
