Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha over phone and took stock of the situation after the earthquake on Saturday morning. A 5.7-magnitude earthquake hit Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday morning at 9:45 am. So far, there is no information about any loss of life or property due to the earthquake.
According to information received from sources, the Prime Minister spoke to Sinha and inquired about the well being of the people of the Union Territory. According to officials, the epicenter of the quake was on the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border. After feeling the strong tremors of the earthquake in Jammu and Kashmir, people came out of their homes.
Earth shaken from Jammu and Kashmir to Delhi-Noida
Earthquake tremors have been felt in some parts of the country including Delhi-NCR. The earthquake came around quarter to 10 in the morning (tremors in Delhi). In Delhi-NCR, people felt the tremor in the earth for about 15-20 seconds. Strong earthquake tremors were felt in Jammu and Kashmir. Its magnitude has been measured at 5.7 on the Richter scale. The epicenter of the earthquake was in the Hindu Kush of Afghanistan.
According to the National Center for Seismology, the earthquake occurred on Saturday morning at 10:45 am Indian time. Its epicenter was at a depth of 181 km underground on the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border.
