New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his address at a program organized to mark the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the Supreme Court, said that there is a need for speedy justice in cases of crime against women, this will increase women’s confidence about their safety. PM Modi said that the judiciary is considered the guardian of the Constitution and the Supreme Court and the judiciary have fulfilled this responsibility very well.
Plays an important role in protecting fundamental rights
Addressing the inaugural session of the National Conference of District Judiciary in the presence of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, he said that the people of India have never shown any distrust towards the Supreme Court or the judiciary. Describing the imposition of Emergency as a “dark” period, the Prime Minister said that the judiciary played an important role in maintaining fundamental rights.
Protecting national integrity
On matters of national security, PM Modi said that the judiciary has protected national integrity by keeping national interests paramount. In the backdrop of the rape and murder of a female doctor in Kolkata and the sexual assault of two girls in a school in Thane, he said that atrocities against women and the safety of children are a matter of serious concern for the society.

The Prime Minister said, “The faster justice is delivered in cases of atrocities against women, the more confidence half of the population will have about their safety.” Modi said there are many stringent laws to deal with crimes against women and there is a need to ensure better coordination in the criminal justice system to ensure speedy justice.

PM Modi released a coin and a postage stamp to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the Supreme Court. Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, CJI DY Chandrachud and Supreme Court Bar Association President Kapil Sibal were also present on the occasion.
