Kanpur’s Green Park Stadium has been replaced by BCCI, these steps will have to be taken before the next match

The facilities of Green Park Stadium in Kanpur have impressed the Board of Control for Cricket in India i.e. BCCI. Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association has had this stadium for many years. At present it is looked after by the Sports Department of Uttar Pradesh. Although UPCA and BCCI have full responsibility for international matches, but this stadium served to insult BCCI on Sunday, September 29, because the third day of the ongoing second Test match between India and Bangladesh could not be played. could.

Only 35 overs of play were played on the first day of the second Test match. The match was not held on the first day due to rain and bad light and the situation remained more or less the same on the second day also. However, on the third day something amazing happened. It didn’t even rain on the third day, but not a single ball was bowled in the match. The reason behind calling off the third day of the match was that the outfield was not fit for play. There was water at many places in the ground and this stadium was not safe for the players and keeping in mind the international standards. This was the reason why the match day’s play was cancelled.

A large number of spectators had come on Sunday to watch the third day of the match, but these fans did not even get to see the faces of the players, leave alone the match. Yes, the surprising thing was that even though there was no rain since morning, at least the players of both the countries could have gone to the stadium, but the players remained in the hotel and when the turn came to start the match, the update came that the ground was bad. There will be inspection of the grounds at 10 o’clock. After the first inspection, an update was issued that the inspection would take place at 12 o’clock. During this time the fans remained steadfast and then there was talk of inspection at 2 o’clock.

Even till 2 o’clock, the players of the Indian and Bangladesh teams were still in the hotel and during this time the umpire and match officials found that the ground was not fit for playing despite there being no rain. In such a situation, the day’s play was cancelled. In such a situation, questions were again raised on UPCA and BCCI that even though BCCI is the richest cricket board in the world, they also do not have good facilities. There are many stadiums in India where the drainage system has become good, but age-old things are still going on in the Green Park Stadium of Kanpur, where the drainage system is dilapidated. Apart from this, the covers do not seem to be sufficient to completely cover the stadium, which can be seen in the pictures.

The current Vice President of BCCI is Rajiv Shukla and he has also held the top post in UPCA for a long time and is currently also on the Board of Directors, but he has not been able to change the plight of his stadium. However, now the time has come that the next international match should be held here only when the drainage system of this stadium becomes such that the match can start within a few minutes of the rain stopping. Apart from this, this stadium of Kanpur was under question from the first day, when no one was allowed in one of the stands because its condition was not good. For this reason, this stadium should be improved before the next international match, otherwise BCCI should choose a stadium like Lucknow and the stadium being built in Varanasi should have a good drainage system and international matches should be organized there.

These steps should be taken

1. There should be changes in the drainage system

2. The stand should be repaired

3. The entire ground should be covered
