Kashmir News: No leniency against terrorists in Kashmir, Amit Shah gives green signal to security forces

New Delhi: No leniency will be taken to wipe out terrorism in J&K. Home Minister Amit Shah, in a high-level meeting on Thursday, directed the security forces to continue the operation against the terrorists. National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla and many senior officials attended the review meeting called on the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir. Shah said in the interest of the common man, there is a need to destroy the militancy environment which supports terrorists and separatist operations.

“The Union Home Minister asked the security forces and police to continue efforts to wipe out terrorism through vigilant and well-planned counter-terrorist operations,” an official statement said. Shah reviewed the functioning of the security grid and the various steps taken in the last few years to bring down the incidents of terrorism.

He also appreciated the security agencies and the Jammu and Kashmir administration for successfully organizing the Amarnath Yatra after a gap of two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He said the people of Jammu and Kashmir would give a decisive defeat to proxy war with the help of security forces once the fear of influx of terrorists, arms and ammunition from across the border is over.

In the meeting, the cases registered under Unlawful Activities Act (UAPA) were reviewed and it was emphasized that investigation should be done in a timely and effective manner. An official said the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir was discussed in the meeting. This security review has been done in the wake of attacks on security personnel, infiltration attempts and killings in the Union Territory.

On Thursday, three infiltrators were gunned down by security personnel along the Line of Control in Kamalkot sector of Uri. At least three infiltration attempts were made from across the border into Indian territory in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pallanwala sector on Tuesday night. The alert soldiers fired at them and forced them to retreat.

On August 21, troops stationed in Jhangar sector of Nowshera in Rajouri district witnessed the movement of two to three terrorists on this side of the Line of Control (Indian territory), officials said. Officials said one of the militants tried to escape but was injured in firing by soldiers and was captured alive. However, two other terrorists managed to escape.

At the same time, on the night of 22-23 August, a group of two to three terrorists tried to infiltrate into Lam sector of Nowshera. But two terrorists were killed on the spot when the landmines exploded. On August 11, terrorists attacked an army camp in Rajouri district, killing four soldiers. Both the attackers were killed by the soldiers.
