Kejriwal’s government would have fallen if he had resigned! What was Manish Sisodia’s argument?

Former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, who came out after spending 17 months in jail, has said that if Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had resigned after going to jail, the government could have been in danger. Sisodia gave this answer when he was asked that he resigned after going to jail, but why did Kejriwal not do so. Sisodia said that Kejriwal did not resign to foil the conspiracy of the BJP.

In an interview to PTI, Sisodia said that he had many departments and he resigned immediately so that the functioning of the government is not affected. The former Deputy CM said that the government does not fall if a minister goes to jail. If a minister is put in jail, the Chief Minister can appoint another minister, whereas if the CM is put in jail, the government itself will end. However, the Kejriwal government has a huge majority in the Assembly. In the 2020 assembly elections, the Aam Aadmi Party won 62 out of 70 seats.

Sisodia said, ‘When I went inside, the situation was a little different. Satyendra Jain ji was inside. He had not resigned. Then I was also taken inside, then suddenly a question arose that I used to look after so many departments. The role of the CM is of a different kind, it is supervisory, there is guidance of the CM, one has to chair the cabinet. But the minister is responsible for the daily functioning of the government. I had so many departments, I resigned immediately so that their work does not get affected.’

Sisodia, who is said to be Kejriwal’s right hand man, further said, ‘The government does not fall by putting a minister in jail. One minister will be replaced by another, this trend will probably not catch on. If the party in the central government wants that I do not like this minister, then no problem put him in. The Chief Minister will bring another minister. But if you put the Chief Minister in jail, then the government itself will end. This trend is dangerous. That is why there is a difference between the two.’ It is worth noting that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been in jail since March 21. Even during the interim bail of 21 days, he was not allowed to go to the CM office.

Kejriwal says that he will run the government from jail and will not resign. Kejriwal and Aam Aadmi Party also argued that they had consulted the people of Delhi and the people of Delhi want Kejriwal to run the government from jail.
