Kerala: Prisoner furious over lack of ‘mutton curry’ in prison, attacks officials

Thiruvananthapuram. Unsatisfied with the quantity of mutton curry served at a prison in Kerala, an inmate went berserk and allegedly manhandled prison officials. Police officials gave this information on Monday. Faijus, a resident of Wayanad, has been kept in the high-security cell of the Poojappura Central Jail here after being convicted in a drug case. Faijus allegedly manhandled jail officials on Saturday after being served food, including mutton curry, which was on the menu.

Poojappura jail officials told ‘PTI-Bhasha’, ‘He tried to attack the jail officials regarding the quantity of food served. A case has been registered on the basis of the complaint of the jail officials. A senior jail official said that the prisoner demanded a large quantity of peas curry and created a ruckus.

The jail official said, ‘Usually on Saturdays we serve mutton curry to the inmates. The same amount of mutton curry was given each time, but he asked for more. He started creating ruckus and threw the mutton served in the wastebasket. He manhandled senior jail officials including the Deputy Superintendent. The officer said that the prisoner had created similar ruckus in several other jails in the past and at present he has been shifted to a special ward.
