After meeting junior doctors who have been continuously protesting over the Kolkata rape-murder case, Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has announced that she has agreed to three of the five demands of the protesting doctors. Out of these three demands, two – the demand to remove two top officials of the Health Department and the Kolkata Police Chief – have been accepted. Along with this, the Police Chief of the North Zone will also be removed. She said that I think the meeting was positive. I am sure they (junior doctors) also think the same.
The CM said that now that we have accepted their demands, I know what they will do. They will go and discuss and then decide about ending the protest. I have told them, citing those sick people, that if not for me, if not for anyone else, then at least return to work for those patients who are yearning for treatment in hospitals in your absence. Anyway, there is a flood situation in some of our districts, so they need doctors more.
