Earlier, a trainee doctor was allegedly raped and murdered at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College. On August 9, the body of the female doctor was found in a seminar hall of the hospital, after which a series of protests have been going on. Based on the investigation, the police arrested Sanjay Rai, a civic volunteer working in the hospital, who later confessed to his crime. Due to delays and irregularities in the police investigation, the Calcutta High Court handed over the case to the CBI. Even before the CBI could start a proper investigation, some anti-social elements attacked the doctors protesting outside the hospital and also vandalized the hospital, after which people’s anger intensified. When the police arrested the people involved in this attack, they said that they had come there on their own will, but the police did not deny any kind of conspiracy. Kolkata Police said that there may be a conspiracy in this, we are investigating it.
