Protests are being held across the country in the case of rape and murder of a female doctor posted on duty at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. The sad and horrific incident of rape and murder has also outraged the medical community across the country. The committee demanding the creation of a Central Protection Act for doctors has now written a letter to Union Health Minister JP Nadda regarding this entire incident and has put forward 6 demands. Let us know what are the demands of the doctors.

Fair and transparent investigation of the incident

The committee has demanded from JP Nadda a fair and transparent investigation into the brutal rape and murder of his colleague. The perpetrators of this heinous crime must be brought to justice expeditiously, and no stone must be left unturned.

Demand for immediate ordinance

In a letter to JP Nadda, the committee has demanded the passing of an ordinance within 48 hours to address the safety concerns of health professionals. This ordinance should include stringent measures to prevent such incidents in future and ensure strict punishment for those who harm health workers.

Law should be introduced in Parliament

Doctors demand that after the ordinance, a comprehensive bill should be introduced on this issue in the upcoming winter session of Parliament. This bill should focus on the safety of health professionals and provide a strong legal framework to protect their rights and safety.

Ordinances continue until they become law

In a letter to JP Nadda, the committee has demanded that the passed ordinance should remain in force until the bill is passed by the Parliament and implemented as a law. At such a time, there should be no lack of legal protection for health workers.

Deployment of paramilitary forces and nationwide security measures

In the letter written to JP Nadda, immediate deployment of paramilitary forces has been demanded for the security of doctors in RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Apart from this, there is a demand for increase in security personnel and installation of CCTV cameras in all hospitals to ensure a safe working environment for health professionals. These measures are necessary to restore confidence and prevent incidents that endanger the safety of people serving in the healthcare sector in future.

also demand compensation

In its letter, the committee has demanded that the family of the deceased doctor be provided immediate and adequate financial compensation keeping in mind their immense loss and suffering. This compensation should reflect the gravity of the crime and the sacrifice made by the doctor in the line of duty. (Report: Anamika Gaur)
