Loudspeakers will have to be turned off 5 minutes before Azan, otherwise… Strictness on Durga Puja pandals in Bangladesh, Yunus government’s order

After the violence that erupted in Bangladesh, the condition of Hindus there has become very pathetic. PM Modi had urged the interim government of Bangladesh, Mohammad Yunus, to ensure the safety of Hindus. Now the news has come that the Bangladesh government has issued an order that the musical instruments and loudspeakers used during the rituals in Durga Puja pandals should be turned off during Azan and Namaz. This order of the Bangladesh government is now being opposed.

According to a report published in the Bangladesh Tribune, Bangladesh Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General (Retired) Mohammad Jahangir Alam Chowdhury issued an order on Tuesday that musical instruments and loudspeakers used in Durga Puja pandals should be turned off during the Azan and Namaz. He also said in his order that it will be mandatory to turn off the music system five minutes before the Azan.

Since Bangladesh is close to West Bengal, the Hindus living there have immense devotion towards Maa Durga. According to reports, this year 32,666 puja pandals will be set up in Bangladesh, including 157 in Dhaka South City and 88 in North City Corporation. Last year this number was 33,431, but this year the number has decreased. Obviously this time this reduction has happened due to the condition of the Hindus living there.

After this order of Bangladesh, protests have started in India. Radharaman Das, Vice President and Spokesperson of ISKCON Kolkata has opposed this order. In a tweet, he wrote, “The advisor of the Bangladeshi Home Minister is instructing that Hindus should stop their worship, music and any rituals 5 minutes before Azaan – otherwise they will face arrest. This is the new Talibani Bangladesh.”

It is noteworthy that Yunus, the head of the interim government of Bangladesh, had a phone conversation with Prime Minister Modi on August 16. During this conversation, PM Modi had requested Yunus to ensure the safety of minorities in Bangladesh. Yunus had assured that Bangladesh will give priority to the safety of all minorities. But in recent times, Yunus has alleged that the attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh have been exaggerated in the Indian media.
