Lucknow News: Bribe of Rs 100 cost heavy, railway clerk sentenced at the age of 89

A unique case has come to the fore in the case of taking bribe in Lucknow. This time the CBI court has convicted the accused railway head clerk in the case of taking a bribe of 100 rupees 32 years ago. For the punishment, he will also have to undergo one year imprisonment. Along with the punishment, Special Judge for CBI Prevention of Corruption Act Ajay Vikram Singh also imposed a fine of Rs 15,000 on the convict.
The age of the clerk is now 89 years. In this whole case, the complainant has also died. According to the CBI’s advocate, Ram Tiwari, a loco pilot posted in the Alambagh loco foreman’s office, had complained to SP CBI on August 6, 1991 that he wanted to sell his pension. For which medical had to be done again. For this, he met RN Verma, head clerk posted at Northern Railway Hospital, on 19 July 1991.
Bribe was sought in the name of medical
In the complaint, he had alleged that RN Verma had demanded a bribe of Rs 150 from him in the name of early medical treatment. When he went to the Railway Hospital again on August 5, 1991 for medical, RN Verma said that work would not be done until 150 rupees were given. At that time loco pilot Ramkumar somehow arranged Rs 50 and gave it to him.

According to the information, the complainant was very poor. Somehow he had given 50 rupees. But the accused refused to give the certificate without paying 100 rupees. Distressed by this, the victim Ramkumar Tiwari had complained about the matter to the Superintendent of CBI Police.

On behalf of the Superintendent of Police, the complainant Ramkumar Tiwari was given two notes of 50-50 rupees and was told to call Babu RN Verma, who was demanding bribe, to a nearby dhaba. At the dhaba, the CBI team had caught RN Verma taking bribe on the spot.

Due to the matter going on in the court for so many years and getting date after date, now the complainant has died. Not only this, at this stage of age, the accused has also filed an appeal in the High Court for early disposal of the matter. On this, the High Court has also directed the special CBI court to dispose of the case within 6 months and end the case.
In its decision on behalf of the CBI court, it has been said that considering the age of the accused and the amount of bribe recovered from him, it is not a big case. But 32 years ago, the amount of Rs 100 was too much for the needy. Who used to get only 382 rupees as pension. The court said that if the accused is not punished for the act done by him, then there will be adverse effect in the society.
