Mamta accused the central government, asked questions on GST
Said- Center is not paying the dues of the state, so what steps should be taken
Jhargram (West Bengal). Launching a scathing attack on the BJP-led central government, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday said that if the Center cannot clear the dues of the state, it will have to pay the Goods and Services Tax (GST). ) the system should be withdrawn. Mamta wondered whether they are expected to ‘stretch their hands’ for their dues? Addressing a rally in tribal-dominated Jhargram district, Banerjee said the Center should either clear dues to states or relinquish power.
He said, ‘Will we have to raise our hands before the Center to clear our financial dues? They are not releasing MNREGA funds. If the BJP government does not pay our dues, it will have to leave power. If the Center cannot pay our dues then it should stop GST. “They are not doing us any favor by giving GST dues, it is people’s money which they (Centre) have collected through GST,” the chief minister said at the birth anniversary program of tribal freedom fighter Birsa Munda. Banerjee said that she had raised the issue after meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Why should we pay GST
He said, ‘We had agreed to implement GST. We thought that the Center would clear our dues, but now the Center is collecting all the money in the form of GST but not giving us our dues. I had met the Prime Minister and requested him, but to no avail. Should we beg for it?’ The Chief Minister said, ‘Why should we pay GST? When the Center is not paying our dues. If the Center cannot give us money, then we can also stop paying GST. The country is not for the politicians but for the people. This is not BJP’s money.
Center accused of stalling Jal Jeevan Mission project
Later, while interacting with the local people, Banerjee claimed that the primary reason for stalling of the piped drinking water project under the Jal Jeevan Mission was the lack of adequate funds from the Centre. Meanwhile, reacting to Banerjee’s allegations, BJP leader Rahul Sinha claimed that the money was withheld due to the Trinamool Congress government’s failure to submit certificates relating to funds spent under MGNREGA.
