While commenting on this move of the Governor, West Bengal Education Minister Bratya Basu called this decision illegal and appealed to the teachers to refuse to accept the post.

Basu said, ‘I came to know about the appointments from the media. Appointing Vice Chancellor in the university is a violation of procedure. The education department was kept out of it. This is completely illegal. Basu claims that the Supreme Court says that the Governor will appoint the Vice Chancellor after discussing with the state government. But this procedure was not followed. In a media report, quoting sources, it is being said that now more such appointments can also be made. Reacting strongly to the Governor’s move, the Mamata government called it “unilateral” and “illegal”.

Education Minister said- Governor wants to establish control in the university as chancellor
State Education Minister Bratya Basu said on Friday, “We will not recognize him as acting VC. The Chancellor is appointing an interim VC without consulting the department to establish his control over the campuses.” Joining the Education Minister, the Governor said on the sidelines of an event at the Raj Bhavan, “Consultation does not mean consent.”
