MCD elections: 1,416 candidates in fray, 250 from AAP and BJP, 247 from Congress declared

New Delhi. A total of 1,416 candidates are in the fray after 1,169 nominations were rejected in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections. This information has been revealed in the official figures. These figures are subject to change as Saturday is the last day for withdrawal of nominations. Of the total 1,416 candidates, 674 are male while 742 are female. Voting for 250 wards of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is to be held on December 4, while its results will be declared on December 7.

According to data shared by the Delhi State Election Commission, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have fielded 250 candidates each, 439 independents are also in the fray. The figures show that the Congress has fielded its candidates from 247 wards, the Bahujan Samaj Party 138, the Samajwadi Party one and the Janata Dal (United) 23.

A total of 2,585 nominations were received by the Election Commission. However, after scrutiny of nomination papers, 1,169 nominations were rejected till Thursday. Common grounds for rejection of nomination papers are incomplete nomination forms, incomplete sections of proposers, missing affidavits, multiple nominations, suppression of information, non-submission of valid caste certificates, incomplete or invalid forms and non-submission of any amount as security .

The Election Commission said, ‘The commission has collected a total of Rs 75,07,500 as nomination fee deposited by the candidates. The Election Commission has also removed 83,6457 banners, posters, hoardings and similar material.
