He has described his decision as ‘stupid’ as well as ’emotional’.
He said that ‘Jammu and Kashmir’ is trapped between two nuclear superpowers.

Srinagar. Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday took a pledge that she will not contest the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections until Article 370 of the Constitution is restored. he said it ‘Silly’ decision may be but for them it ’emotional’ topic is. In an interview with PTI, the former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir also said that assembly elections are not being held in the union territory because the central government ‘scared’ It has happened that if an elected government is formed, it will not be able to run its ‘hidden agenda’. It is worth mentioning that in August 2019, the Central Government abolished the special status of Jammu and Kashmir by abolishing the provisions of Article 370 of the Constitution. Also, the state of Jammu and Kashmir was divided into two union territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

Mehbooba Mufti said, ‘Until Article 370 is implemented again, I will never contest the assembly elections. Whenever I have taken oath as a member of the Legislative Assembly, it has always been with two Constitutions… the Constitution of Jammu and Kashmir and the Constitution of India, and at the same time with two flags. It may be a foolish decision on my part, but it is an emotional issue for me. Mehbooba was referring to the separate constitution and flag of the then Jammu and Kashmir under special status. Asked whether she would contest the parliamentary polls, the PDP president said she was not sure. He said, ‘Parliamentary (election), I don’t know anything yet.’ On a question whether the People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD), an alliance demanding re-implementation of Article 370, would contest the assembly polls as an alliance, Mehbooba said it was too early to say anything about it.

He said, ‘We never discussed whether we are going to fight the elections together or separately. Until we all sit together… only then we will be able to talk about it. On the claims of the central government to restore democracy in Jammu and Kashmir, Mehbooba questioned that if panchayat elections are the real test of democracy, then why there are the posts of Prime Minister and Home Minister in the country. The PDP president said, ‘They are talking about panchayat elections. It is not that these elections have taken place for the first time. These elections have been happening since the time of (founder of the National Conference) Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah. If Panchayat is the real test of democracy, then what are the Prime Minister and the Home Minister doing? Panchayat cannot be an alternative to the assembly.

When asked about the non-holding of assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, Mehbooba said that the central government “scared” It has happened that if an elected government is formed, they will not be able to run their ‘hidden agenda’. He said, ‘I don’t know what they are afraid of. The decrees they are issuing every week are further weakening the people of Jammu and Kashmir, and they want to continue it. Mehbooba alleged that their plan was to break the people of Jammu and Kashmir and bring them to their knees. He said, “That’s why they don’t want a Vidhansabha, which they think might be overpowered and probably not obey orders.”

Referring to the situation in Jammu and Kashmir, Mehbooba said that it is no longer possible for the central government to behave strictly. He said, ‘It is not possible… these are all drastic steps. You have created a situation like a pressure cooker. But now he is afraid that if he removes his hand, everything will come out together. It might be too big. That’s why they are creating more pressure every coming day. The PDP president said, ‘They are making more laws, and arresting people, they don’t want opposition, they don’t want any kind of protest, and they don’t want to give any space to the voice of protest, they Just want everything to look good.

He said that Jammu and Kashmir is ‘a problem, an issue’ and an issue between two nuclear powers (India-Pakistan) and no one can dismiss it. In the case of pro-Khalistan separatist Amritpal Singh, Mehbooba Mufti said that she does not know whether “all this is really happening or whether the BJP is creating such a situation”.
