Shimla: The temperature has dropped further after rain and snowfall in Himachal Pradesh. Fresh rain and snowfall in some parts of the state has also affected life. Meanwhile, ‘Yellow Alert’ has been issued in some areas of the state regarding storm, rain and snowfall. Vehicular movement was closed on the vital Leh-Manali national highway on Friday following fresh snowfall in upper reaches of Kullu and Lahaul and Spiti districts. At the same time, light to moderate snowfall occurred near Atal Tunnel, Sissu, Koksar and Rohtang Pass.
Vehicular movement disrupted
Lahaul and Spiti Superintendent of Police Mayank Chaudhary said that due to the fresh snowfall, vehicular movement has been disrupted from Darcha to Sarchu and Koksar to Rohtang and traffic on National Highway 505 (Sumdo-Kaja-Gramphu) also remained blocked due to snowfall. State capital Shimla is experiencing intermittent moderate rain with cold winds. The sky in the city was covered with dark clouds and fog as well, reducing visibility to a few meters and affecting traffic movement on the roads. Higher reaches of Kinnaur, Lahaul and Spiti, Kullu and Rohtang Pass, Dhauladhar Range and Pin Valley received moderate snowfall while fog-shrouded Dharamshala also received moderate rainfall.
Yellow alert of heavy rain
The local meteorological center has issued a ‘yellow’ warning regarding light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and heavy rain with lightning and strong winds at isolated places in Chamba, Kangra, Una, Hamirpur, Bilaspur, Shimla, Solan, Sirmaur, Mandi and Lahaul. ‘Alert’ has been issued. Due to the impact of Western Disturbance, heavy rain or snowfall is predicted at isolated places in Chamba, Kangra, Kullu and Lahaul and Spiti districts on Friday. The weather office has warned that this will impact essential services like water and electricity, communication, traffic and visibility on the roads will be low.
Six degree Celsius temperature in Manali
The Meteorological Department has predicted rain in the central and lower hilly areas along with snowfall in the upper areas for November 11. The minimum night temperatures in Kusumassery and Keylong in the state were recorded at minus 0.6 degrees and minus 0.5 degrees Celsius respectively, while it was 3.2 degrees in Sumdo, Kalpa, five degrees in Narkanda and six degrees Celsius in Manali.
