Chennai. The Madras High Court has taken a big decision regarding the use of mobile phones in the temples of Tamil Nadu. The court has banned mobile phones in temples. According to the court, this decision has been taken to maintain the purity and sanctity of the temples of the state. The High Court gave this decision while hearing a public interest litigation filed by M. Sitharaman to ban mobile phones inside the Subramaniam Swamy temple at Tiruchendur in Tuticorin district.

According to TOI, the petitioner had said in his petition that devotees take pictures of idols and worship with their mobile phones, which is against the rules of the temples. The High Court noted that Sri Krishna Temple in Guruvayur, Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple in Madurai and Sri Venkateswara Temple in Tirupati are some examples where the ban on mobile phones is in effect.

Each of these temples has separate security counters for depositing mobile phones before entering the premises. Therefore, this Court is of the opinion that such steps may be taken to maintain the sanctity and sanctity of the temple, by creating safety deposit counters for mobile phones similar to those in Tiruchendur temple and prohibiting the use of cell phones inside the premises .
