Mulayam Singh Yadav’s younger daughter-in-law and BJP leader Aparna Yadav took over as the vice-president of the Uttar Pradesh State Women’s Commission on Wednesday. Comparing Prime Minister Narendra Modi with Parshuram and herself with Eklavya in the BJP family, she said that despite being talented, she was not being given opportunities. However, she said that now she will work like Arjun.
Speaking to reporters here after assuming charge, Aparna also tried to dismiss rumours that she was upset with the BJP for not getting an assembly election ticket or any other responsibility.
Aparna said that I am grateful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Uttar Pradesh government, the organization and my party for entrusting me with this responsibility. Those who know me know that my work has been focused on women’s issues, whether it is protesting in the Nirbhaya case or the recent Kolkata case.

Said that I pray to God to give me strength so that I can continue my work with full strength. I started with social service and now I am in politics, with the blessings of seniors and elders I hope I will continue to do good work.
When asked if he is angry with the BJP for not getting a ticket for the 2022 assembly elections, he said that when you are in a family, everyone has the right to express their views. This does not mean that anyone is upset or angry.
Yadav told reporters that BJP is a very big family in which the Prime Minister is like ‘Parshuram ji’. Initially I felt that I am ‘Eklavya’, I am not getting any responsibility. Now that I have got this responsibility, I feel that I will work like ‘Arjuna’. I am grateful to the Prime Minister.
Aparna Yadav was appointed vice-chairman of the Uttar Pradesh State Women’s Commission last week. On Monday evening, she met Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, putting an end to rumours that she would rejoin the SP.
According to an official notification issued by Principal Secretary Leena Johri, Governor Anandiben Patel last week nominated Babita Chauhan as chairperson of the Uttar Pradesh State Women Commission and Aparna Yadav and Charu Chaudhary as vice-chairpersons for a period of one year or until a decision of the state government.
Aparna Yadav is the younger daughter-in-law of SP founder and former Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav. She is the wife of Akhilesh Yadav’s stepbrother Prateek Yadav.
Aparna, a diploma holder in international relations, had contested the 2017 assembly elections from the Lucknow Cantt seat on a SP ticket but faced defeat.
She lost the 2017 election to Rita Bahuguna Joshi of the BJP. She joined the BJP in January 2022.
