Morbi (Gujarat). Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday visited the bridge accident site in Morbi and reviewed the ongoing search and rescue operation there. The Prime Minister also met the injured under treatment at a hospital. The officials informed the Prime Minister about the relief operation after the accident. At least 135 people, including women and children, were killed and over 100 were injured when a cable suspension bridge collapsed in the Machhu river on Sunday when a cable suspension bridge collapsed in Morbi town.

All possible help should be given to the affected people: Prime Minister Narendra Modi
A PMO release said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi stressed on ensuring that the affected people get all possible help. The high-level meeting was attended by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Bhai Patel, Home Minister Harsh Shanghvi, Gujarat Chief Secretary and DGP, state Home Department and Gujarat State Disaster Management Authority and other top officials. The Prime Minister had earlier said that there would be no laxity in the rescue and relief operations. The Gujarat government has constituted a five-member committee to probe the bridge collapse incident. Nine people, including officials of Orewa, the bridge renovation company, ticket sellers and security personnel, have been arrested in connection with the Morbi bridge collapse.
