More than 5 crore cases pending in the courts of the country, Supreme Court figures also revealed

During the ongoing winter session of Parliament, information has been given about the cases pending in the courts of the country. The figures released in the Lok Sabha are shocking. Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal has said in a written reply to a question that till December 1, 5,08,85,856 cases were pending in various courts of the country. Along with this, the Law Minister has also given the figures of cases pending in the Supreme Court and High Court. Let us know about this in detail.

How many cases are pending in which courts?

Giving information in the Lok Sabha on Friday, Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal said that more than 5 crore cases pending in various courts of the country include more than 61 lakh cases pending in all the 25 High Courts. These include a total of 80,000 cases pending in the Supreme Court. Law Minister Meghwal has said that more than 4.46 crore cases are pending in the district and subordinate courts of the country.

How many judges are approved in the courts?

Law Minister Arjun Meghwal told the Lok Sabha that the total sanctioned strength of judges in the Indian judiciary is 26,568. He said that the sanctioned strength of judges in the apex court is 34, while in the high courts this figure is 1,114 judges. The sanctioned strength of judges in district and subordinate courts is 25,420.

Information regarding vacancies came out

The Law Minister has said that 123 proposals have been received for the appointment of judges sent by the High Court Collegium, out of which as of December 12, 81 proposals are in various stages of processing at the government level. At the same time, the remaining 42 proposals are under consideration of the Supreme Court collegium. The Law Minister further informed that the recommendations from the High Court Collegium regarding 201 vacancies have not yet been received. (input language)
