Muhammad Yunus’ promise turned out to be a lie, Hindu teachers in Bangladesh are being forced to resign

After the dismissal of the Sheikh Hasina government, cases of atrocities against Hindus are increasing continuously in Bangladesh. The latest case is related to Hindu teachers teaching children there. They are being forced to resign from their government jobs. Their resignation is being taken forcibly. According to a report by India Today, so far at least 50 Hindu teachers have been forced to leave their jobs in the neighboring country.

According to Bangladeshi daily Prothom Alo, Shukla Rani Halder, principal of Barishal’s Bakerganj Government College, was also forced to resign. On August 29, a mob of students and outsiders stormed her office and demanded that she resign. After hours of intimidation, a frustrated Halder quit her government job by simply writing “I resign” on a blank piece of paper.

Earlier on August 18, around 50 girl students of Azimpur Government Girls’ School and College surrounded principal Gitanjali Barua and demanded the resignation of assistant principal Gautam Chandra Paul and physical education teacher Shahnaza Akhtar. “They never asked for my resignation before August 18. That morning, they barged into my office and humiliated me,” Barua told The Daily Star.

Anti-Hindu incidents are taking place in Bangladesh despite the promises of Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus. Due to this, a feeling of fear and helplessness can be clearly seen among Hindu teachers in Bangladesh.

“I was forced to resign from the post of proctor and head of the department. We are very insecure right now,” Shanjay Kumar Mukherjee, associate professor at the department of public administration and governance studies at Kabi Nazrul University, told India Today.

Bangladesh Chhatra Oikya Parishad, the student wing of Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Oikya Parishad, condemned these actions during a press conference on Saturday and spoke about the growing intolerance faced by the Hindu community.

Writer Taslima Nasreen targeted the army-backed Muhammad Yunus government. She said, “Teachers in Bangladesh are being forced to resign. Journalists, ministers, former government officials are being killed, harassed, jailed. Gen Z burned down the industries of Ahmadiya Muslims. The shrines and dargahs of Sufi Muslims were demolished by Islamic terrorists. Yunus does not say anything against this.”
