Mumbai: A Mumbai court on Friday sentenced computer engineer Anees Ansari to life imprisonment for hatching a conspiracy to attack the children of an American school here. Additional Sessions Judge A. a. Joglekar sentenced him. Ansari was arrested by the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad in October 2014 and was in jail since then.
He was convicted under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and provisions of the Information Technology Act. According to the prosecution, Ansari was working as an Associate Geographic Technician in a private company and used his office computer to create a Facebook account under a fake name and publish objectionable information.

The investigating agency accused him of supporting the activities of the terrorist organization ISIS. His chat with Omar Elhaji on Facebook suggests that he intended to carry out a ‘lone wolf’ attack on an American school. A ‘lone wolf’ attack refers to all activities ranging from reconnaissance and conspiracy to attack by just one person with the intention of killing a large number of people.
