Haridwar. A Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) worker has filed a defamation case in a Haridwar court against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for calling the organization the ‘Kaurav of the 21st century’. The lawyer of RSS activist Kamal Bhadauria said that his client has filed a case in the court under sections 499 and 500 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for making indecent remarks against the RSS. On January 9 this year, during the Bharat Jodo Yatra in Haryana, Rahul Gandhi had reportedly said that ‘the Kauravas of the 21st century wear khaki half pants and run shakhas’. Two to three richest people of the country are standing with him.
Judge Shiv Singh has asked the plaintiff to be present in the court on 12 April 2023 for the hearing. Bhadauria’s lawyer said that Rahul Gandhi compared the RSS with the ‘Kauravas of the 21st century’. This is his indecent speech, which presents his mindset. RSS is such an organization, which has come forward to help in times of any calamity in the country. In this complaint of Kamal Bhadoria, it has been further said that ‘Rahul Gandhi has said that this country belongs to ascetics, not priests. By saying this, he divided the Sanatanis into ascetics and priests. Due to which the sentiments of the people of the country were hurt. In this complaint petition, a demand has been made to prosecute Rahul Gandhi.
Explainer: Will Rahul Gandhi not be able to contest elections for 8 years now, will not have the right to vote, what are the options?
Significantly, Rahul Gandhi was recently convicted by a Surat court in another defamation case for his ‘Modi surname’ remark. After which he was disqualified as an MP from the Lok Sabha. Apart from this, an MP/MLA court in Bihar’s Patna district has directed Rahul Gandhi to appear on April 12 to record his statement under section 313 of CrPC in the defamation case filed against him. Rajya Sabha MP Sushil Kumar Modi had filed this case during a rally in April 2019 over Rahul Gandhi’s alleged ‘Modi surname’ remark.
