In the alleged rape and murder case of a female trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, her parents have told the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) that some interns and doctors of the same college might be involved in the crime. This information was given on Friday. Last week, a female doctor was allegedly raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The CBI is investigating the case on the orders of the Calcutta High Court.
The doctor’s parents also provided the central investigating agency with names of people they suspect to be involved in the murder of their daughter at the government hospital.
A CBI official said, “The parents told us that they suspect the involvement of many people behind the sexual assault and murder of their daughter. They have given us the names of some interns and doctors who worked with their daughter at RG Kar Hospital.”
The official of the central agency said, “We have zeroed in on at least 30 names, whom we will call for questioning. We have also started questioning them.”
The CBI on Friday summoned the hospital staff and two postgraduate trainees (PGT) who were on duty with the doctor on the night of the incident. CBI officials had questioned the officer-in-charge of Tala police station on Thursday night. The agency also took the hospital’s former principal Dr Sandip Ghosh for questioning.
Dr Ghosh, who resigned two days after the body was found, had expressed apprehension of an attack on him, following which his lawyer had sought protection from the Calcutta High Court. The court directed him to approach a single bench.
The body of the postgraduate intern was found in the seminar room of RG Kar Hospital on August 9. The police arrested a civilian volunteer in this connection the next day.
The source said the CBI on Friday took the arrested person to a hospital to recreate the crime scene.
