Nitin Gadkari announces projects worth Rs 1.6 lakh crore for Northeast – Fast Hindi News

New Delhi: Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari announced road projects worth 1.6 lakh crore in the North East.

The projects include roads, ropeways, ROBs, major bridges over the Brahmaputra river and other water bodies. The Union Minister also said that multi-modal logistics parks have also been proposed at Udaipur in Tripura and Silchar in Assam, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways said in a statement.

“Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we are working towards bridging the connectivity gap in Northeast India and accelerating the transport infrastructure in the region,” the minister said.

The Minister said that about 50 side facilities and 50 view points are also being developed. He said that once completed, it will give a significant boost to the tourism sector and economy in the North Eastern region.

The Union Minister made this announcement at a press conference reviewing the National Highway projects in the North Eastern Region in Guwahati, Assam.

In a Twitter thread, later, the minister said that he has announced the upcoming newly sanctioned projects for Meghalaya at a total cost of Rs 12,500 crore at the press conference.

He says the project includes: (I) Shillong-Western Bypass with a total length of 38 km and a total cost of Rs. 2205 crores. This will facilitate the inbound traffic from Guwahati which will be diverted towards Shillong and will boost inter-state trade development.

(II) The total length of Dainadubi-Darugre-Williamnagar is 80 kms and the total cost is 4350 crores. It will promote interstate connectivity between Assam and Meghalaya and promote socio-economic development in the region. It is a major route for coal transporters from all parts of Garo Hills.

(III) Mawlingkung-Mawringneng (Shillong Eastern Bypass), Mawlingkung-West Jaintia Hills and Jowai Bypass have a total length of 75 km and a total cost of Rs. 4100 crores. This will enhance better regional connectivity and reduce traffic.

(IV) The total length of Paikon-Tura is 56 km and the total cost is Rs 1827 crore. Gadkari said in a tweet that this will take forward the vision of Act East Policy of Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji.
