Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the interim budget on Thursday. At the same time, the upcoming Lok Sabha elections can be announced any time. BJP is assuming that once again it will be in power at the Centre. However, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has rejected this claim of BJP. Tharoor says that the picture is still pending and the interim budget seems to be the final budget of the Modi government.
“The issue of unemployment was completely missing from the speech.”
The Congress leader also criticized Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for describing GDP as ‘governance, development and performance’. Tharoor said that under this system, ‘G’ means ‘Government Intrusion and Tax Terrorism’, ‘D’ means ‘Demographic Betrayal’ and ‘P’ means ‘Poverty and Rising Inequality’ (poverty and rising inequality). Terming the interim Union Budget as disappointing, Tharoor said in an interview that the issue of unemployment was completely missing from the Finance Minister’s speech.
“People should vote with pride for Ram Mandir”
The Congress MP claimed that the government gets ‘F grade’ (fail) in terms of improving the lives of the common man. Tharoor said, “Inflation, especially the rise in food prices, is so shocking that the bottom 20 per cent of the population is unable to buy them in the market, whereas they could have bought a year or two ago. It is ruining the lives of the common Indian.” That’s the reality, that’s why the government wants people to vote out of pride for Ram Mandir or vote out of pride for the alleged attack on Pakistan over Balakot, Pulwama incidents.”
“Governments are elected to improve the lives of ordinary people.”
The former Union Minister said that BJP had achieved similar success in 2019. He said, “This time Ram temple is going to be the issue and there is no doubt that the Abu Dhabi temple will be added. Clearly governments are not elected to do this, governments are elected to improve the lives of common people.” Does this government do that? I would say that on that particular criterion the government has completely failed.”
BJP claims, the result of 2024 elections is already decided
When asked, Sitharaman says that in July the government will present a detailed roadmap towards the goal of ‘developed India’ and BJP claims that the outcome of 2024 elections is already decided. Tharoor said, “The picture is still pending.” The Lok Sabha member from Thiruvananthapuram said that votes cannot be counted before voting. He stressed that there is still time for the opposition to work together and put economic realities before the people. Tharoor said that this interim budget seems to be the ‘final budget’ of the Modi government.
