In view of the Lok Sabha elections, Trinamool Congress i.e. TMC has announced the names of its candidates for all the 42 Lok Sabha seats of West Bengal. A major upheaval was seen in the list released by TMC. This time TMC has given tickets to 16 sitting MPs, out of which 12 are women. Former MP Mahua Moitra has again been fielded in the electoral fray, while former cricketers Kirti Azad and Yusuf Pathan have also been fielded in the electoral fray.
Sandeshkhali area in Basirhat
This time in West Bengal, everyone’s eyes were on Basirhat Lok Sabha seat, because the Sandeshkhali area where the uproar is going on, comes under this Lok Sabha constituency. Actress Nusrat Jahan was the MP from this seat. TMC has not given ticket to Nusrat Jahan this time. Haji Nurul Islam has been fielded in place of Nusrat. Apart from this, the ticket of actress Mimi Chakraborty has been canceled from Jadavpur seat. Sayani Ghosh has been fielded from Jadavpur. Apart from this, TMC has made former cricketer Kirti Azad its candidate from Bardhaman-Durgapur. In the last election, this seat was won by BJP’s Ahluwalia. At the same time, TMC has made a big bet by giving ticket to Yusuf Pathan, who has played cricket for Team India. Yusuf Pathan will contest against Adhir Ranjan from Baharampur Lok Sabha seat.
Big bet on Mahua Moitra
TMC has once again fielded Mahua Moitra from Krishnanagar Lok Sabha seat. Mahua had won from here in 2019. On 8 December 2023, his Lok Sabha membership was canceled in the cash-for-query case. Mahua was found guilty of taking money and asking questions in Parliament. At the same time, actor Shatrughan Sinha has again been fielded from Asansol. Two big faces of Bengali film industries, Rachana Banerjee, have been given tickets from Hooghly and Deepak Adhikari Dev from Ghatal, while Arjun Singh’s ticket has been canceled from Barrackpore seat. Partha Bhowmik has been given the ticket from Barrackpur in place of Arjun Singh.
TMC is contesting elections on its own
Let us tell you that it was expected that India (.IN.DIA) alliance would contest the elections together in Bengal. It was continuously being said from the Congress side that talks are going on. However, many TMC leaders have been opposing the Congress, while Bengal Congress President Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has been consistently vocal against TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee. Mamta Banerjee had already announced to contest the elections alone in Bengal. In the last Lok Sabha elections, Trinamool Congress had won 22 seats, while BJP had won 18 seats. Apart from this, Congress was successful in winning two seats.
