Asaduddin said in his residence that I have always opposed the PFI’s approach and supported the democratic approach. But this ban on PFI cannot be endorsed. The actions of a few individuals who have committed crimes do not mean that the organization itself should be banned. The Supreme Court has also held that mere association with an organization is not enough to convict someone.
He further said that such a harsh ban is dangerous as it is a ban on any Muslim who wants to speak his mind. Just as India’s electoral autocracy is approaching fascism, every Muslim youth will now be arrested with the PFI pamphlet under India’s black law, UAPA. They say further. He also said that even though courts acquitted, Muslims spent decades in prison. I have opposed UAPA and will always oppose all actions under UAPA. This violates the principle of liberty, which is part of the basic structure of the Constitution.
We must remember that Congress amended the UAPA to make it stricter and when BJP amended the law to make it even more stringent, Congress supported it. A journalist like Kappan is arrested randomly and even takes 2 years to get bail. How did PFI get banned? Aren’t organizations associated with the perpetrators of the Khwaja Ajmeri bomb blasts? Why didn’t the government ban right-wing majority organizations?
