New Delhi. The Gujarat High Court has imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. He raised questions about the degree of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has expressed surprise over the Gujarat High Court’s decision. He said that he is ‘shocked’ by the court’s decision. On Saturday, Arvind Kejriwal said, ‘The whole country is surprised by the decision of the Gujarat High Court, because in a democracy there should be freedom to seek information and ask questions.’

However, he said that being illiterate is not a ‘crime or sin’, as there is a lot of poverty in the country. “Many of us are not even in a position to get formal education due to the financial condition of our families,” he said.
2016 order was canceled by the High Court
Significantly, the Gujarat High Court on Friday quashed a 2016 order of the Central Information Commission (CIC), in which Gujarat University was asked to provide information about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s degree to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Justice Biren Vaishnav also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on Kejriwal and directed him to deposit the amount with the Gujarat State Legal Services Authority (GSLSA) within four weeks.
