Please don’t ruin the industry, I am not part of any power group: Mohanlal on sexual harassment in Malayalam cinema

Renowned actor Mohanlal has broken his silence on the sexual harassment allegations that have rocked the Malayalam film industry. On Saturday, he said that if there is concrete evidence against the wrongdoers, they should be punished. Mohanlal praised the Kerala government’s decision to release the Justice Hema Committee report, which has brought to light several cases of sexual harassment and abuse. Mohanlal said that he is not part of any power group in the Malayalam film industry and he has no knowledge of the existence of any such group in the region.

Mohanlal said, ‘We request you not to focus all your attention on AMMA (Malayalam Movie Artists Association). The allegations are being investigated. Please don’t ruin the film industry. The Hema Committee report is welcome and it was the right decision of the government to release it. These questions cannot be asked of everyone. This is an industry of very hardworking people, but everyone cannot be blamed for this. The investigation is on and the guilty will be punished.’ He said that the problems faced by junior artists are being looked into. We will fully cooperate in the investigation process. We are here to set things right. However, I have not read the Hema Committee report yet.

Many actresses came forward and made serious allegations

It is known that after the publication of the Justice Hema Committee report on sexual harassment in the Malayalam film industry, many actresses came forward. They told about the mistreatment they faced at the workplace. Amidst these allegations, the government announced the formation of a 7-member SIT to investigate the allegations made after the publication of the Justice Hema Committee report. After this, more complaints came to light against many actors and directors.

Shocking allegations made by actress Radhika Sarathkumar

On Saturday, South Indian actress Radhika Sarathkumar made shocking allegations. She said that on the sets of a Malayalam film, objectionable videos of female actors were recorded using cameras hidden inside vanity vans. She herself saw male actors watching these videos on their mobile phones. Radhika questioned why the Hema Committee report was delayed. She alleged that women are allegedly harassed and mistreated not only in the Malayalam film industry but also in other industries. However, she did not reveal which film’s set this was about and which actors were seen watching these videos.
