Javelin thrower Navdeep Singh created history for India by winning the gold medal in the F41 category at the Paris Paralympics. Navdeep, competing in the category for short athletes, had finished his campaign with a silver medal after beating world record holder Sun Pengxiang of China with a throw of 47.32m. It was upgraded to an unprecedented gold after Iran’s Sadegh Bet Sayah was disqualified for repeatedly displaying an offensive flag. Pengxiang (44.72m) took the silver. Sayah was on top with a new Paralympic record of 47.64m in his fifth throw but lost the medal due to his actions.
International Paralympic Committee rules prohibit athletes from making any political gestures at the event and Sayah was excluded from the final results for unsporting/improper conduct.
