Sanjay Raut Bail Plea: Shiv Sena leader and MP Sanjay Raut did not get relief even on Wednesday, 02 November 2022. He is in jail in the Patra Chawl scam case of Mumbai. The PMLA court in Mumbai has extended his judicial custody for 14 days. However, the court has reserved the verdict on his bail plea and the verdict will be pronounced on November 9. Sanjay Raut reached the court today where the ED’s cross-examination on his bail plea will be completed. After this the court can give its order.
Let us tell you that on October 21, the court had adjourned the hearing on his bail plea. At that time also the judicial custody of Sanjay Raut was extended. The ED had filed a supplementary charge sheet in this case. In this, Sanjay Raut was made an accused in the case. The court took cognizance of the supplementary charge sheet. In this, Raut’s name has been taken as an accused in a case of money laundering. Raut had moved the Special Court for Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) cases for bail.
Remand and bail merge together
Taking cognizance of the prosecution complaint, Special Judge MG Deshpande had issued summons to all the accused in the case, including Shiv Sena MP’s aide Praveen Raut. His lawyer had said that he wanted to study the charge sheet and decide to add additional grounds in his petition. Raut was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on August 1 in connection with financial irregularities in the redevelopment of Patra Chawl in Mumbai’s Goregaon area. Now both the remand and bail of Raut have been merged together.
ED’s argument on Sanjay Raut’s application
Opposing Raut’s bail application, the ED had told the court that he had played a key role in the money laundering case from Patra Chawl redevelopment. He worked behind the scenes. The ED had also denied Raut’s contention that the action against him was taken out of malice or political vendetta.
