Police arrived before Sandeep Ghosh; CBI’s new claim in Kolkata case, suspense even on the clarification given at the crime scene

A new revelation has been made in the case of rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata. The CBI investigation has revealed that when the college principal Sandip Ghosh came to know about the incident on the morning of August 9, the police was already present there before he reached the spot. According to CBI sources, after examining the CCTV footage and phone calls, at around 10 am, Dr. Sumit Rai Topdar of the Pulmonary Medicine Department of RG Kar first called Sandip Ghosh. However, Sandip Ghosh was taking a bath at that time, so he did not pick up the phone immediately. After this, Sandip Ghosh himself called Dr. Topdar back. Topdan informed Sandip Ghosh about the incident. After this, Ghosh left for the hospital. On the way to the hospital, he also called the police, the then Superintendent of the hospital Sanjay Bashistha and the then head of the Pulmonary Medicine Department Arunabh Dutta Chowdhury.

According to the Anandabazar Patrika report, when Sandip Ghosh arrived at the crime scene, the police was already present there. It is worth noting that earlier Kolkata Police DC (Central) Indira Mukherjee had claimed that by 10:30 am on August 9, the police had completely cordoned off the crime scene and there was no possibility of outsiders entering there. She had rejected all allegations of destruction of evidence. However, CCTV footage obtained by the CBI made it clear that Sandip Ghosh was not present at the crime scene before the police arrived.

Meanwhile, a video of the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College also surfaced, which raised many questions. The video showed that many people were present in the seminar hall after the incident. The police later clarified on this video and said that the place from where the body of the deceased was recovered was kept secure by the police and the video was of another part of the hall. Despite this, the matter again came into controversy after some more footage of the video surfaced.

After this video surfaced, BJP leader Amit Malviya alleged in a tweet that along with doctors, police and hospital staff, outsiders were also present at the scene. Let us tell you that the CBI’s lawyer in the Supreme Court, Central Solicitor General Tushar Mehta had also claimed that the situation at the scene was changed. However, DC Indira Mukherjee clarified that the people seen in the video were police, hospital doctors, staff and family members of the deceased. According to him, no outsider was at the scene and there was no possibility of outsiders entering the secure area. This new revelation has further complicated the matter and has also raised questions on the role of the police. Now it remains to be seen what further revelations the CBI investigation makes in this case.
