Politics is also on the rise after the rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will hold a rally tomorrow i.e. on 17 August. It is surprising that a Chief Minister holds a rally against an incident that happened in her state. Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Derek O’Brien has however discussed the need for this. According to the TMC MP, the CM will demand the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to expedite the investigation of the case.
The TMC MP wrote on his Instagram, “It is hard to imagine a more brutal heinous crime than the murder and rape of a young woman in Kolkata.” Derek O’Brien further said that the central investigating agency, which has taken over the case, should give daily updates on the investigation. He also said that the CBI should follow the deadline given by the Chief Minister to the Kolkata Police to complete the investigation by Saturday.
He said, “Kolkata Police has arrested one accused. Justice will be done only when the CBI catches all those involved and sends the case to a fast-track court.”
“This should not be quietly buried by the CBI taking over the case. The need of the hour is that there should be speedy justice and the culprits get the harshest punishment. Nobody who has committed this barbaric act should be spared,” the Rajya Sabha MP said.
According to the TMC leader, Kolkata Police has arrested 19 people for vandalising the hospital during the nationwide ‘Reclaim the Night’ protest. “Those who attacked and vandalised the hospital should also be booked,” he said.
Mamta blames the opposition
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday accused opposition parties (CPI-M-BJP) of being involved in the vandalism of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital here. She said, “Some political parties CPI-M and BJP are behind this attack and they have done the vandalism to defame the state and create unrest. I do not blame the students and agitating doctors.”
The Chief Minister said that outsiders were behind the vandalism at RG Kar Hospital. Mamata said that she would take to the streets on Friday evening to demand justice for the deceased woman doctor.
According to the police, late Wednesday night, a group of 40 to 50 people entered the hospital premises under the guise of protest and damaged property.
