‘In many villages of Andhra, only the elderly are left’

CM said, signs of old age problem have started appearing in South India including Andhra. Many countries like Japan, China and some European nations are struggling with this problem, where the elderly population is high. The problem is further aggravated by the migration of young people in South India to other parts of the country or abroad. He pointed out that the fertility rate in the southern states has already fallen to 1.6, which is much lower than the national average of 2.1. He said, if it declines further, by 2047 we will see an increase in the number of elderly, which is not right. In many villages in Andhra and other parts of the country, only elderly people are left.
