Protests banned for seven days, Section 163 imposed around RG Kar Medical College

Kolkata Doctor Murder: Any kind of dharna (protest) has been banned around Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College. This ban will continue for the next seven days. The Kolkata administration has taken this step after receiving serious reports about law and order. According to the order, protests, rallies, dharnas etc. will not be allowed around RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. According to the order of Kolkata’s Executive Magistrate and Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal, Section 163 of the Indian Civil Security Code has been implemented here. It is worth noting that protests are being held here after the rape and murder of a 31-year-old doctor. Recently, protesters had also targeted this hospital.

The order said that some information has come to light from reliable sources. According to this, there are sufficient reasons for violent demonstrations, rallies, meetings by a section of people or organization near RG Kar Hospital, which disrupts the peace. Apart from this, there is a threat to public life, safety and human life. Due to this, any kind of demonstration has been banned here. Let us tell you that doctors from almost all the hospitals of West Bengal joined the demonstrations on Saturday against the alleged rape and murder of a trainee doctor of the local RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, due to which health services were badly affected in the entire state.

Several junior doctors had started a strike eight days ago to protest the incident and senior doctors also joined the 24-hour nationwide strike called by the IMA. This affected services in the Out Patient Departments (OPDs) of both government and private hospitals. Meanwhile, the CBI questioned Dr. Sandeep Ghosh, former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, for the second round. The questioning began on Friday evening and continued till after midnight. The body of the postgraduate trainee doctor was found in the seminar room of RG Kar Hospital on August 9. The police arrested an accused the next day in this connection. The agency took the former principal of the hospital with it for questioning on Friday and questioned him till 1.40 am late night.
