Monkeypox Strain A.2 Case: Pune’s ICMR-NIV Lab analyzed 2 monkeypox cases of travelers who had returned from the UAE. The analysis revealed that two cases were infected with monkeypox virus strain A.2 which belongs to hMPXV-1A clade-3. Let us tell you that so far nine cases of monkeypox have been reported in India.
Of these nine cases, the latest case was found in Delhi two days ago. Here, a 31-year-old Nigerian woman was found infected with the disease, becoming the first woman in the country to suffer from the viral infection. The woman was admitted to Lok Nayak Hospital and like the previous three patients, she has no history of foreign travel.
9 cases found in the country
Meanwhile, the first patient found infected with monkeypox in Delhi was discharged from LNJP Hospital on Monday. Out of the total 9 cases, 4 cases are from Delhi while the remaining 5 have been reported from Kerala. Cases of monkeypox have also been reported in other parts of the world, particularly throughout the Americas and Europe.

The Health Ministry had also released a list of do’s and don’ts on the viral disease on Wednesday. The Center had talked about the use of hand sanitizer, washing hands with soap and covering the mouth with a mask as measures to prevent the spread of the disease. The center has also advised against sharing bedding, clothes, towels etc. with people infected with monkeypox.
WHO declared a global health emergency
The World Health Organization (WHO) recently declared monkeypox as a global health emergency. More than 75 countries have confirmed outbreaks of the viral disease, with cases crossing 25,000. Countries where the disease has spread rapidly include Brazil, Spain, America, Japan, France, Germany, Israel and the UEA.
