New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced to give Bharat Ratna to the country’s former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao. This announcement of the government is special in many ways. Rao served the country as its ninth Prime Minister from 20 June 1991 to 16 May 1996. The credit for the expansion of the country’s economy and its liberalization goes to Rao. After becoming the Prime Minister, he appointed Manmohan Singh as Finance Minister in his cabinet and gave him the responsibility of treating the country’s economy.
PV Narasimha Rao is known for initiating sweeping economic reforms, liberalizing the Indian economy in 1991 and re-integrating the Indian economy with the global economy, especially the East Asian economies. Narasimha Rao was personally responsible for abolishing the License Raj and reducing red tape to make Indian industries more competitive.

This Congress Prime Minister, who gave a new shape to the country’s economy, became an untouchable for the party towards the end of his life. This leader, who dedicated his entire life to the party, was not even given respect from the party after his death. The dead body was made to wait outside the party headquarters for a long time, but even after this the doors of the headquarters were not opened.
Died on 23 December 2004
Author Vinay Sitapati’s book ‘The Half Lion’ claims that Rao breathed his last at AIIMS on 23 December 2004. Rao’s son wished that his father’s last rites be performed in Delhi only. But the then Home Minister Shivraj Patil suggested to the former PM’s younger son Prabhakar that he should take the body to Hyderabad and the last rites should be performed there. Prabhakar agrees and the body is brought to his residence at 9 Moti Lal Nehru Marg.

After this, the next day on 24th December, the body is taken to the airport to be taken to Hyderabad. Congress headquarters is on the way from home to the airport. It has been a tradition that whenever a big leader of the party passes away, his body is kept at the party headquarters, so that the workers can pay tribute to the leader. For this purpose, the body was brought in front of the party headquarters, but his body was not allowed inside. Even the gate of the party headquarters was not opened.
Rao was angry with the Congress party in his last days.
It is said that Narasimha Rao was angry with the Congress party in his last days. He used to irritate even the high command. Along with this, it is believed that even the party high command did not want Rao’s last rites to be performed in Delhi. The body of the former PM was going to the airport in an Air Force vehicle and his body remained kept in the same vehicle in front of the closed door of the headquarters but the gate was not opened. Rao’s family kept waiting to go inside, but after waiting for half an hour he left for the airport. When all this was happening outside the gate, the then Congress President Sonia Gandhi was also present inside the party headquarters.
